Well, today I have a “tail” to tell you that will help you believe in miracles. This is a true story about a horse friend of mine. His name is Big Guy.
Big Guy and his human mom Lynn, were galloping through a corn field with Cheshire Hunt. A corn stalk got under Lynn’s leg and lifted her out of the saddle and she flipped over and then she hit the ground very hard.
Big Guy dove to the right and got caught in wire at a fence. Even though she was hurt, Lynn got up and found Big Guy who was lying on the ground with his hind legs in the air caught in the wire.
Luckily Lynn had wire cutters and was able to free him. Somehow they were able to get back to the farm and then Big Guy collapsed. The doctors said that the only reason they were able to get home was because they were both in shock.
It ended up that Lynn was told never to ride again due to her injuries. She had broken left arm, destroyed her shoulder, which had to be replaced with complete Titanium, ruined her hip and knee, smashed her face and suffered internal injuries.
Big Guy’s neck was broken in two places and his spinal cord was swollen. After the accident there was no connection between his brain and his muscles. Many people told Lynn to put Big Guy out of his misery.” ‘Thankfully, she didn’t listen just like my mom didn’t listen to the people who told her that she should put me “out of my misery.”
Two of his doctors Dr. Shoemaker and Dr. Blakeslee didn’t give up on him and Lynn always told my mom that she had faith that he would get better. Sometime later, Big Guy collapsed again and was taken to New Bolton, ICU. At that point, once again, most of the experts said his life should be ended. Lynn said, “NO!”
As much as Lynn helped bring Big Guy back, he helped her. The support and love they shared to get where they are in this picture is almost unimaginable.
Guess what? There are similarities between my human mom and Big Guy’s human mom. They were both having a hard time in their personal lives when we had our accidents. Even though people said they should give up on us, they didn’t. They both ignored “human wisdom” and worked very hard to help us. The most important part was that they didn’t stop believing in us and in our desire to live life to the fullest and overcome adversity.
They didn’t give up! That’s the moral of this story. The picture of Big Guy and his human mom jumping over a fence a couple of weeks ago is evidence of the fact that life is what you make it. The right attitude is what makes the difference. Yippee for Big Guy and Lynn. They have heart! Yippee!
