Self-Confidence Stops Bullies!

Well, it’s about time that the TV people are beginning to talk about bullies. Today, Dr. Phil is doing a show about bullies and guess what? On the preview of the show, I heard words similar to these “What’s important is how the bullied kids feel about themselves and  how much self esteem they have.”

Well, DUH! That’s exactly what I have been trying to say in my very own words for ever! Kids who are bullied would stop the bullies in their tracks if they had confidence in themselves and if they were confident that they had the support of EVERYONE in their schools, on their playgrounds and in their daycare centers. Plus, they need to understand that when they react with tears or anger, they make the bullies happy.

OK, so here is an example. A child goes to school all excited about Christmas. In fact, so excited that he wears a Santa hat. The bullies start making fun of him. He starts to cry and takes off the hat so that they will stop making fun of him. What happens next is not that they stop teasing. Instead, they grab his Santa hat and start throwing it around, laughing and calling him a baby. Things go from bad to worse for that poor kid.

So here’s the same story except for one thing. The kid in the Santa hat has the kind of confidence that I have! He goes to school with the Santa hat on. Someone makes fun of the hat. He says, “You are just jealous ‘cuz you aren’t lucky enough to have a Santa hat or you would be wearing one too! I look way cool in this hat and I bet you think so too! Hey everyone, don’t I look cool in this hat?” The rest of the kids shout out, “Yup, you and your Santa hat look way cool!”
