My Heroes: Christopher Reeve and Aimee Mullins

I just learned about a way cool lady and her name is Aimee Mullins. She was born without the leg bones below her knees. The doctors told her parents that she would never walk. On her very first birthday, her legs were amputated below her knees. That means that the doctors had to remove them.

Before her third birthday Aimee could walk with on prosthetic legs. Do you know what prosthetic legs are? Well I do so I’ll tell you.  They are fake or imitation legs and guess what? They are used like real legs once you figure out how to use them. How cool is that? Way cool, I think and I bet you do too!

So, here is the best part about this lady named Aimee Mullins. She can do anything she wants to do with those fake legs. She ran track when she was in college and then she worked hard so that she could go to the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

How cool is this? She competed with fake legs that were shaped like the hind legs of a cheetah. Do you know about cheetahs? Well, they are the fastest animal in the world and Aimee had fake legs that helped her run as fast as a cheetah!

Aimee set World Records in the 100 meter, the 200 meter, and the long jump! Can you believe that? Well, I sure can! Guess why? She had heart, courage and she believed she could do it so she did. I hope to meet her someday ‘cuz she is a hero of mine just like Christopher Reeve who was a handicapped Superman! I want to be just like Christopher Reeve and Aimee Mullins ‘cuz they were so way cool!

Aren’t you glad we have disabled heroes? I sure am!
