Believe and Achieve!

Did you know that yesterday was Read Across America Day which is a celebration in honor of Dr. Seuss? He was a great author and guess what? He wrote some way cool books. Look at this adorable girl wearing an outfit in honor of Dr. Seuss and his book, The Cat In The Hat.

My mom spoke to kids at Colebrookdale yesterday and it was a way cool assembly.

My mom spoke to kids in honor of Read Across America Day. She told the kids about The “Tail” of Rugby Jones: A Rascal’s Journey from Disability to Ability.

The best part about her speech was that she let the kids know that authors of books don’t have to be superhuman. She shared with the kids the fact that all kinds of people can write books. When she was asked about her favorite authors, she spoke more about the authors that she respected the most because they overcame the odds to become authors.

She told them about Stash Serafin who is blind but he wrote a book.  Then she told them about Glenda Watson Hyatt who has cerebral palsy, can only type with her left thumb but she wrote a book.

Then she told them about Gloson Teh, who is only 11 years old but he wrote a book.

The kids went crazy with happiness ‘cuz they learned that if you believe, you can achieve! A few of the kids told her that they want to read more books and even write books. How cool is that? Way cool, I think and I bet you do too.

Yippee! If you believe, you can achieve! Yeehawh!

Hi Rugby, so proud of you and your Mom.
You both are keepers and heros of mine because both of you inspire me from the inside out.
I can’t see you, but I can honestly sense your feeling of realness coming through every word you and your Mom say, cause the words come from your heart.
    Now; isn’t that so way-cool!
Rugby, you and your Mom make it easier to believe and achieve. Keep on doing what you are doing, and more folks will believe.
