Deaf, Dumb and Blind

It’s interesting how some people have such a difficult time communicating with people who are disabled in some way. I have noticed that some people who are talking to blind people tend to get louder and louder with their words.

It’s similar to the fact that some people try to communicate with people who speak a different language by getting louder and louder.

Noise level has absolutely nothing to do with the ability to understand. Communication has nothing to due with the volume. It has to do with the level of sensitivity and attitude of the speaker and the listener.

The reality is that all of us…”dif-abled” and “abled” alike need to walk in the other persons shoes or wheelchair as the case may be in order to gain empathy and understanding.

As our wonderful Rugby says to all who want to listen…and even to those who don’t want to listen…

“How do you reach out to a child who does not speak? Well, I think you reach out by actions that are warm, kind and friendly. You don’t ask for anything, you just offer your friendship.

Kids without voices have feelings just like kids without vision. They know and feel just as much as talkers and see-ers like me! Maybe sometimes, they just might know a little more! That’s can be our secret okay?”
