The American Flag
The 4th of July is one of my very favorite holidays. Do you want to know why? Well, it’s because it’s a special day for Americans to celebrate our history and our nation. We get to barbecue, enjoy our families and friends and watch fireworks.
As we enjoy the day, we can take pride in our people and give thanks for our freedom and for our amazing soldiers who are out there making sure that our freedom will always ring. We live in a melting pot of different heritages and I just love that we can be so different and be so united.
I get goose bumps when I watch our flag wave, especially on the 4th of July. I want to quote part of an inaugural speech that was given by one of our presidents way before 9-11. His words still ring true because of our every day heroes.
Since our great country was founded, each generation has come to “give testimony to its national loyalty with the graves of young Americans who answered the call to service around the globe…With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own… Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”
