I don’t like to put pictures on this blog that are scary but I need to this time and here is why: Parents and kids, we just heard about the most dangerous thing that some kids are doing. This is so scary!
They are using body spray and in particular Axe to set themselves on fire. Real fire!
They spray themselves and then set fire to their clothes. They hope that when the alcohol in the body spray wears off that the fire will go out. Aren’t these kids aware of what can happen when something goes wrong? (And something will go wrong. Guaranteed!) Why are they doing this?
These kids are only in about sixth grade. We have all heard how dangerous it is when kids play with fire but this is the extreme! There are videos being posted on YouTube with these kids setting fire to themselves as others watch and laugh.
The boys in middle school are the kids most at risk of doing this dangerous thing. Parents, check your kids pockets. If you find a lighters or matches, take them away. Show this picture to them and tell them how painful burns are and explain the fact that skin grafting is how doctors repair bad burns.
I worry a lot about how bullied kids might play a role in this.
Parents, don’t allow your kids have body spray except under your supervision. Please!
