A mother by the name of Amy connected with us and told us that her daughter has Down’s syndrome. She said that she tried to be upbeat about the fact that her daughter was healthy in every other way but she just couldn’t keep up the deception any longer.
She said she felt sorry for herself all the time but especially when she saw other mothers with their perfect children. She said that with each chapter that she read of The “Tail” of Rugby Jones, she found herself wanting to change her attitude.
She shifted in the way she looked at a disability and freed herself and her daughter from the limited and closed off world that she had created for both of them. She said that the day after she finished The “Tail” of Rugby Jones: A Rascal’s Journey from disability to Ability, when she picked her daughter up from school, her little girl hugged her in front of all the other kids and parents. She said, “I love you Mommy. I missed you so much!”
She said one of the other moms said to her, “My kids never tell me that. You are so lucky.” Amy said to her, “Yes, I am!”

Thank you Jim. Yes, she is a beautiful child and she and her mom have a beautiful story.
Lynn, thank you so much for the comment and RT. It sure is an encouraging and uplifting story!
I have a child with a syndrome and he is the sunshine for my daughters and I. He always has a smile and love to give. I have thought before if I could change this situation and make him a “normal” And my answer is NO! I wouldn’t change him at all!
Stacey,
Your comment melted my heart. Too often parents want to change so many things about their children. Children are truly gifts from God. How wonderful it is that you are the kind of parent that appreciates every single thing about your children. You are a very lucky and a very exemplary mom. Wish there were more just like you. Thank you for sharing.
