Rescuing an Animal

Those of you who are regulars here know that this site is about helping anyone with special needs and helping the  people who love them.

Today’s post is about the 4 legged variety of special needs creatures. Well, that isn’t actually true because some special needs animals have fewer than four legs.

If you have never experienced what it feels like to rescue and animal, I will share with you the emotions that I have experienced over the years. Besides the amazing feeling that comes from the fact that you saved an animal’s life, you understand contentment because you are making a difference.

Animals in need of rescue have a deep and intense look in their eyes. If you gaze into them deeply, you will see a look of longing, hope, anticipation and a desire to be loved.

You can almost read what is in their minds, “Could this be the person who will love me and take care of me?”

Animals that are available through rescue are thoroughbreds, mixes, blind, deaf and with other special needs. Some can’t walk without help and some are just afraid because they have experienced so much pain in their short lives. Some have emotional issues caused by abuse or neglect.

The best part about rescuing animals with any special needs or emotional issues is that once they figure out that you can be trusted, they give more than any animal owner could possibly imagine.

Rescuing an animal isn’t for everybody, just like owning an animal isn’t for everybody. It could be for you. Please think about the possibility.

These are a couple of quotes that I hold dear. I don’t know who wrote them.

“There is a place in a human’s heart that only the love of an animal can fill.

“Dear Lord, please help me to be the person my dog thinks I am.”
