What is wrong with this picture? The young man who was beaten by seven other boys has been told to by his school to stay at home for his own safety. The facts that have been publicized indicate that the school is responsible for inaction and turning a blind eye to bullying.
Why aren’t our schools doing something about situations like this? There are three simple reasons and it might be one, two or all three reasons.
1. They don’t know how.
2. They are afraid to take a stand.
3. They don’t care.
Nobody in any school wants to admit that any of the three reasons might be true. Whether they want to admit it or not, they need to own up to their inaction.
Had Nadin’s school taught the student body and staff the specifics about why bullies do what they do and what targets and bystanders need to do to stop bullying, Nadin might not have been beaten.
In an effort to protect her son, Nadin’s mother is going to home school him. So as the old saying goes, “The inmates are running the asylum!”
I ask again, what is wrong with this picture?
