Recent studies are indicating that illegal drug use among teenagers is actually declining.
Parents don’t get your hopes up! The use of prescription drugs is on an increase. Pain relievers seem to be the most popular drug of choice among teenagers. The frightening part of this information is that kids actually believe that since these drugs have been prescribed by a doctor…they are safe!
Here are few numbers that statistics are proving:
- 40 percent of kids who started drinking under age 13 developed alcohol dependence later in life.
- Teens who drink are 50 times more likely to use cocaine than teens who don’t drink.
- 63 percent of the kids who drink say they obtained the liquor from their own homes or friend’s homes.
- Alcohol kills 6.5 times more teenagers than all other drugs combined.
- Teenagers whose parents talk to them on a regular basis about drug use are 42 percent less likely to use drugs.
- Over 60 percent of teens say that drugs were sold, used, or kept at their school.
- 20 percent of 8th grade students say that they have tried marijuana.
- 28 percent of teens have a friend who has used ecstasy.
- 15 percent of juniors and seniors in high school have used amphetamines.
Take these facts to heart and do something to change the likelihood that your kids will become part of the numbers!
