Parents, what do you know about “raves?” If you don’t know what they are or don’t know much about them, you better take a crash course and learn all about them. It could save your child’s life!
Since about 2008, the “rave scene” has grown its popularity. Young teens are attending these “Electric Dance Music Festivals.”
The idea is supposedly that the kids learn about new kinds of music and connect with the best DJs out there.
Guess what? That is not the reality of what really happens. These “raves” are very dangerous places for teens to go. Last year 15 year old Sasha Rodriguez died at a two day rave called the Electric Daisy Carnival. She overdosed on ecstasy while there.
The rave that she attended supposedly had an age requirement of 16 or older. Like so many teens, she knew what to do to get in. Prior to her death, most raves admitted “all responsible ages.” Since Sasha’s death, most raves require that kids must be over 18.
As we all know, kids of all ages get fake IDs.
Parents, please talk to your kids about the dangers of raves and drugs. Tell them repeatedly about the dangers of experimenting with drugs and taking any substance from strangers. It is very common for people to put drugs in their own water. Often in the heat of rave dancing, a kid might ask for a drink of someone’s water and then it’s too late.
