Some parents interact with their children. Some don’t. Some parents read with their kids. Some don’t. Some parents do activities with their children. Some don’t. Some parents talk to and listen to their children. Some don’t.
We all know that bullying is a danger in all schools today. One of the best ways that parents can help their children so that they know what to do when they encounter a bullying situation is to play act and be a bully. Explain to your children that they need to play act and be the victim, the bystander and the bully. If your children are young, you can show them this video first. It might get the ball rolling easier.
Reasons why you should be a bully
- When you say things like a bully would say to your child, you can see how your child reacts.
- When you say things like a bully would say to one child, you will see how your other children react when they are bystanders.
- When you say things like a bully would say, your children will give you an indication if they might be aggressors in bullying events.
After you play the bully, reverse the roles and give them a chance to be the bully. This will give you vital information about your childrens’ bullying experiences. Role playing is a great way to interact with your children in a way that will give you an understanding of the mistakes they might make in a bullying situation. When you see them in a different light than usual, you will have a grasp on ways to teach them how they should handle bullying situations.
If you aren’t sure of ways to handle bullying situations, you can download the free of charge RugbyJones: No Bully Zones Manual for Parents and Kids.
Good luck and enjoy the interaction with your children as you offer them valuable lessons about bullying.
