I visited some children and their parents at The Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. The kids were patients who had suffered spinal cord injuries.
The families were from many states including Illinois, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. One little fellow was only two years old and he and his parents had driven over nine hours to get to the hospital. I told them that Rugby’s CD has helped a lot families deal with the “Are we there yets?”
The children ranged in ages from two to about sixteen. The kids and their parents listened attentively as I told Rugby’s story and shared pictures. It was so rewarding to see in person, how Rugby’s story is helping children and their parents with all kinds of differences and disabilities.
One little girl said, “I don’t need a wheelchair, I’m just the sister but can I have a stuffed Rugby anyway?”
One little boy squealed, “Mommy, a stuffed toy with a wheelchair. A stuffed dog with a wheelchair!”
One boy said, “I’m too old for a stuffed Rugby but my sister isn’t too old. Can I take one home to her?” Later I saw him petting the stuffed Rugby and putting “Zoomie” (Rugby’s wheelchair) on and off.
As we got ready to leave, one little boy said, “I love you.” I went over to him and said, “I love you too.” I meant it.
