Bullying takes on a lot of forms and this is one that I haven’t blogged about before.
Where we live, which is about an hour from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, the temperature reading reached a high of 109°F. If the heat index is included, the temperature reads 121°F.
All over the news today have been warnings because the massive heat wave has caused more than 22 heat related deaths as of yesterday. Hospitals are filling up with thousands of patients who have heat related illnesses.
This dangerous heat wave has caused roads to buckle, black outs, precautions to be taken for zoo animals, build up of pollutants in the air, reservoir levels plummeting and danger of tire failure while driving on highways.
HEADLINES:
Turn on the news to any station and you will hear that because of the record breaking heat and high humidity, individuals are being directed to avoid illness and death by following the following safety precautions:
- Staying in air conditioned rooms
- Drinking plenty of fluids
- Replacing salts and minerals
- Avoiding outdoor activities
- Not overdoing
BUT HORSES ARE BEING RACED TODAY!
Why is that acceptable? The answer is that it is not acceptable. Today was opening day at Saratoga Race Track. Race horses are being bullied because they are made to race when there are heat advisories and warnings that place them in jeopardy!
How can that be acceptable? If you have a conscience, you will spread the word that animals and horses must not be abused! Please! Stand up to protect innocent animals!
