DolphinTale and The “Tail” of Rugby Jones

Both Dolphin Tale and The “Tail” of Rugby Jones are about mammals without tails. Both are about courage and overcoming the obstacles that life can present.

Dolphin Tale is a wonderful movie that is coming out September 23 and the timing couldn’t be better. School will have been in session for a few weeks by then. Parents, please take your children to see it.

Dolphin Tale was inspired by the true story of a dolphin named Winter. Winter was rescued off of the Florida Coast by a vet. He takes the dolphin to theĀ Clearwater Marine Aquarium for medical attention.

This story is so inspiring and it offers the same kind of positive attitude that we share on this site. Those of you who are regulars, know that reviewing movies is not usually what we do here. This movie is different.

Winter lost her tail in a crab trap. If any of you have had the pleasure of swimming with dolphins, you will be even more moved by this story. I had the opportunity to actually swim with the dolphins several times as a kid. We lived on the east coast of Florida and they were experiences that I will never forget.

Back to the movie; While at the aquarium, a young boy befriends Winter and encourages everyone to save her and do all possible to help her. A doctor is brought in to create a prosthetic tail for Winter.

Can you imagine? What amazing things are happening in the world of people and animals! The Christoper and Dana Reeve Foundation is responsible for a great deal of the research that is changing people’s lives in ways similar to what was done to help Winter. You can always make a difference for those who have need of these scientific breakthroughs by making a donation to them.

What better than a “different” animal to show kids what positive thinking and caring actions do to help those who are different in any way?

If you have kids who have been bullied, kids who have special needs or just kids period, this is the movie to see. You can use it to open discussions about overcoming obstacles, helping anyone with any special needs and understanding and helping those who are different.
