Today’s post is a bit of an addendum to my last post. The person who wrote the email was a parent, thus the reason why I mentioned the importance of what kids are taught at home. Since I only quoted a couple of sentences, I understand how some of you have questioned my directing the post at parents.
There are children who are taught at home to respect others no matter what differences they might possess and some of these kids learn bullying behavior from other sources. On that note, I would like to share a portion of another readers’ email.
It’s more than parents – it’s a society that still condones hate-speech against gay and lesbian people. Also, after the quote, you really imply that home is where kids are being taught this. Yes, in some homes that is true – but people like the person who wrote that email aren’t just teaching their children this stuff at home…People who are using their own version of “God” to deny God in others and who are blocking attempts by schools help different children – be they gay, differently-abled, or of a different color or nationality…
We need to do something to help all kids to feel safe and the sooner the better.
